Fernando Ortiz

Environment & Knowledge Management

Mr. Ortiz joined NADBank on January 2014. He currently serves as Head of the Environment & Knowledge Management Unit. In such capacity he leads the team charged with implementing the Environmental and Social Risk Management Systems, follow up the Project Monitoring and Evaluation System, as well as the Knowledge initiatives of the bank.

Mr. Ortiz has over 30 years of professional experience in the fields of environmental, water, wastewater, and solid wastes, as well as overall public infrastructure planning. Before joining NADBank, had been a consultant to national and local governments for planning and designing of sustainable environmental infrastructure projects. With the Interamerican Development Bank, he worked on environmental projects in various countries in Central America. Mr. Ortiz has been a director and project manager during planning and supervision of water and wastewater systems, treatment plants, and collection and disposal of solid wastes, both in Mexico and the U.S., as part of various engineering and consulting firms. He was Research Director of the Water Institute of the State of Nuevo Leon, leading watershed studies developed with local universities (ITESM and UANL).

As part of his responsibilities at NADBank, he has been a key part of the team updating the ESG ecosystem of the bank, including the development of the Green Bond Framework and the reporting of the green bonds the bank has issued in the financial markets, the development of a Green Loan Program for Financial Intermediaries, the reporting of climate investing of the bank to the OECD, among other efforts to align the bank to the new world standards for green and climate finances.

Mr. Ortiz holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, as well as master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He took various business administration graduate courses at the University of Texas in Arlington. Mr. Ortiz completed courses on Sustainable Finances at the University of Cambridge and Sustainable Finances and Risk Analysis at ITAM. He holds professional certifications on quality on operations (Lean Six Sigma - LSS), Project Management Professional (PMP), and PMI Risk Management Professional (RMP).
