The Border 2025: U.S.-Mexico Environmental Program is a collaborative effort of the United States and Mexico to improve the environment and protect the health of the nearly 12 million people living along the border. To support EPA and SEMARNAT in their efforts to achieve results, NADB provides its services to facilitate stakeholder meetings, as well as to identify, contract, and manage projects.
The Border 2025 Program is the latest environmental program implemented under the 1983 La Paz Agreement. It builds on the Border 2012 and Border 2020 Environmental Programs, emphasizing regional, bottom-up approaches for decision making, priority setting, and project implementation to address the environmental and public health problems in the border region. As in the previous two border programs, the new Program encourages meaningful participation from communities and local stakeholders.
The Border 2025 Program also strengthens its focus in regional areas where environmental improvements are needed most: establishing thematic goals, supporting the implementation of projects, considering new fundamental strategies, and encouraging the achievement of more ambitious environmental and public health goals.
Border 2025 Goals:
1 Reduce Air Pollution
2 Improve Water Quality
3 Promote Sustainable Materials Management and Waste Management, and Clean Sites
4 Improve Joint Preparedness for and Response to Hazardous Environmental Emergencies
