NADB and Tecnológico de Monterrey continue training program for Mexican border communities

Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. – The North American Development Bank (NADB) and the Latin American and Caribbean Water Center, Centro del Agua para América Latina y el Caribe (CDA), in the School of Science and Engineering of the Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM) will offer training in the areas of solid waste management and managing water resources under climate change conditions to water utility personnel and local government officials in Mexican border communities in 2015.

For the fourth consecutive year, NADB and CDA are joining forces to provide training on environmental topics for about 80 utility operators and municipal officials in the Mexican border communities that NADB serves.

The program will be executed by CDA in three phases. The courses scheduled for this year are: Municipal Solid Waste Management to be held in Acuña, Coahuila and Ciudad Chihuahua, Chihuahua; and Water Management under Climate Change Conditions to be held in Tecate, Baja California.

“Our goal is that this training serve as a tool for participants to improve planning and implementation of actions aimed at optimizing the management of basic public services in their communities,” stated NADB Managing Director Gerónimo Gutiérrez.

For his part, CDA Director, Dr. Jürgen Mahlknecht, stated that “it’s a great opportunity for TEC de Monterrey and CDA to continue a partnership that has benefitted more than 500 public officials throughout the border in the last few years, and reinforces TEC’s commitment to disseminate and transfer knowledge.”
