Training in solid waste management provided to municipal sanitation officers in Chihuahua

Chihuahua, Chihuahua – The North American Development Bank (NADB), in coordination with Latin American and Caribbean water center, Centro del Agua para América Latina y el Caribe (CDA), of the Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM), will initiate a seminar tomorrow for municipal sanitation officers from communities throughout the state of Chihuahua.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide urban sanitation departments with the tools for developing comprehensive waste management programs, as well as for evaluating, monitoring and controlling the risks associated with inadequate waste management. It is also intended to help promote the development of public policies related to proper solid waste management.

The seminar is being presented in the city of Chihuahua to approximately 20 representatives from municipal sanitation departments throughout the state, including Juarez, Ojinaga, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Delicias and Parral, as well as officials and delegates from the Chihuahua State Ministry of Urban Development and Environment.

The three-day seminar consists of eight sessions for a total of 24 hours of training and covers such topics as garbage collection, transport, storage, treatment, recycling and valuation, as well as waste management planning and legislation and compliance with solid waste standards. A workshop on developing environmentally-friendly solid waste projects is also included.
