CALL FOR NADBANK UNIVERSITY AMBASSADORS CLASS OF 2023

The North American Development Bank (NADBank) is a binational financial institution established and capitalized by the Governments of the United States and Mexico to provide financing and technical assistance for the development and implementation of environmental infrastructure projects that help preserve, protect and enhance the environment in the U.S.-Mexico border region for the well-being of the people in both countries. CALLING ON:
Undergraduate students enrolled in public or private universities or other institutions of higher learning in the United States or Mexico to serve as NADBANK UNIVERSITY AMBASSADORS, CLASS OF 2023 to create a communication hub, as well as to recognize outstanding students and broaden their academic work, in particular in the areas of the environment, sustainability, finance and international relations.

Program Objectives

  1. Establish and promote a dynamic space for cooperation and interaction between NADBank and students at public and private institutions of higher learning in Mexico and the United States.
  2. Support the communication, leadership and academic development of undergraduate students.
  3. Establish a fluid and direct channel of communication with students to disseminate the programs, projects, messages and actions carried out by NADBank for the benefit of U.S.-Mexico border communities.
  4. Facilitate interaction and collaboration, as well as share experiences and knowledge among students, academic authorities, public and private institutions and NADBank.

Description

In selecting undergraduate students to act as its ambassadors, the North American Development Bank is recognizing their commitment, enthusiasm and academic achievement.

Undergraduate students enrolled in public or private universities or other institutions of higher learning in the United States or Mexico may apply to serve as a NADBank University Ambassador. From among the students who respond to this notice, and subject to the review and validation of the corresponding requirements, NADBank may select a student from each institution and recognize him/her as a NADBank University Ambassador for the period of July 1 to December 31, 2023.

Benefits of Serving as a NADBank University Ambassador

Students chosen to be NADBank University Ambassadors may receive the following benefits:

  1. A statement issued by NADBank attesting to your status as a NADBank University Ambassador for the period indicated above.
  2. Training from NADBank regarding its functions, projects and programs of NADBank, as well as issues related to the environment, sustainability, climate change and bilateral relations between Mexico and the United States, among other topics.
  3. Invitations to attend, in person or virtually, forums, seminars, conferences, workshops, webinars, videoconferences held be by NADBank,
  4. Participate in regular virtual meetings with NADBank staff and other University Ambassadors.
  5. Access to the NADBank University Ambassadors directory.
  6. Upon completion of service, a certificate of recognition for those students who, in the opinion of the Bank, have carried out the activities as outlined in the University Ambassador Manual.
  7. The ten students who, in the opinion of NADBank, excelled in carrying out the activities outlined in the University Ambassador Manual will have the opportunity to publish an article on the NADBank social networks and institutional channels. The topic and characteristics of the article will be defined in advance with the Bank.
  8. The two students, one from each country, who in the opinion of NADBank were outstanding in performing the activities outlined in the University Ambassador Activities Manual will be invited to attend its flagship event as guests of honor. During the event to be held in San Antonio, Texas, they will be given their certificate of recognition by Bank management in the presence of special guests and other attendees. NADBank will cover the travel, lodging and meal expenses of both students. It will be the responsibility of the students to have the necessary travel documentation in order.   

Activities of a NADBank University Ambassador

The main objective of the NADBank University Ambassadors is to learn about the activities, functions and operations of the NADBank, as well as issues related to its mission, such as the environment, project sustainability, climate change and the economic, social and environmental importance of the U.S.-Mexico border, green infrastructure projects, and bilateral relations between Mexico and the United States, among other topics, in order to share this knowledge with the student body of the institution in which they are enrolled.

As a NADBank University Ambassador, the student must be able to carry out the following activities:

  1. Promote and participate in activities at his/her school or institution, by organizing and promoting events, webinars, round-table discussions, workshops, seminars, talks, videoconferences, etc., related to NADBank’s mission, programs, projects and messages, as well as other related topics, such as those mentioned in the first paragraph of this section
  2. Promote and disseminate NADBank programs, activities and messages to the students at his/her university.
  3. Actively participate and engage in NADBank social media posts, in order to expand the scope and reach of its digital publications.
  4. Be involved in activities at his/her university, such as publishing articles of interest related to NADBank in student magazines, brochures or newspapers; participating in university or local radio or television programs; helping create or participate in student podcasts, posts or blogs; as well as any other projects, channels or initiatives.
  5. Within the first five calendar days of each month, provide a report and testimonials (photographs, images, links) of the activities carried out during the previous month. The NADBank Coordinator will clarify any doubts in this regard.

The University Ambassador Activity Manual will contain a work calendar in which a series of activities will be suggested for each month, to help students manage their time and distribute activities in their role as ambassador. Click here for the Manual.

Application Process

Interested students may apply online beginning April 10, 2023, at 12:00 a.m. (CDT). The deadline for applying is May 31, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. (CDT).

I. Application Requirements

The general requirements for applying to the program are:

  1. Be an undergraduate student, enrolled in a public or private university or similar institution of higher learning in the United States or Mexico as of the date of this notice.

    Students in their final semester (or quarter, term, etc.) may not be eligible, because they must be enrolled as students during the entire ambassador service period indicated above.

  2. Have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the United States or 8.0 in Mexico as of the date of application.
  1. Preferably, be majoring in one of the following areas or fields of study: Environment, Ecology, International Relations or Business, Communication, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Law, Administration.

 II. Application Steps

Step 1. Fill out the application form. During the application period (April 6 - May 31, 2023), interested students may go online to complete the application form at http://bit.ly/40yO8YO by providing the following information:

  1.  1. Full name of the student
     2. Major or degree the student is studying
     3. Semester, quarter, term or period the student is in, as well as the number of semesters quarters, terms or periods required for such degree.
  2. Email and cell phone number.
  3. Name of the educational institution where the student is enrolled.
  4. Full name and email of the academic authority (school dean, academic director, student advisor or counselor, coordinator/administrator of student/scholastic affairs, etc.) nominating (endorsing) the student. 

Step 2. Upon completion and submission of the application form, the student will be sent a link via email to complete the application process by uploading the documentation listed below. NADBank will create an account for each student applicant upon receipt of the application form.

Required documentation. The student must upload following documentation via the link received by email:

  1. Copy of a current ID proving the student is studying at the educational institution (in PDF).
  2. A personal statement not to exceed 500 words, explaining the reasons why the student wishes to be a NADBank University Ambassador (in PDF). The form may be downloaded here.
  3. Letter from the academic authority (school dean, academic director, student advisor or counselor, coordinator/administrator of student/scholastic affairs, etc.) at the educational institution in which the student is enrolled, scanned in PDF format. The form may be downloaded here.
  4. Official academic transcript (on school letterhead with school seal and date) demonstrating a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the United States or 8.0 in Mexico (in PDF).

Each file may not exceed 5 MB. The link sent via email to each applicant will be the only means of submitting documents. Documents not submitted through this link will not be taken into consideration. During the application period, the student may make changes to the information uploaded to his/her account via the same link. Once the application period has ended, the student will have to request any change to the information in the system at the following email: universityambassador@nadb.org

Applicants that have not duly filled out and submitted the application or who have not provided the required documents in a timely manner will not be taken into consideration.

III. Selection Criteria

NADBank will select one student from each educational institution or university school based on the following criteria:

  1. Assessment of the personal statement explaining the student’s reasons for participating.
  2. Grade point average.
  3. Relevance of major to NADBank functions.
  4. In the event of a tie based on the preceding points, the student will be selected in the order in which the applications were received based on the date and time recorded by the database.

In selecting its University Ambassadors, NADBank will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, social status or political affiliation.

In principle, only one person may be selected as a NADBank University Ambassador for each institution of higher education. However, additional students may be selected in institutions that have a large student enrollment and offer the various degrees described in this notice through different schools.

Conduct of Participants

To foster an environment of respect during the application process and throughout the term for which the selected students serve as ambassadors and to protect the image and reputation of the Bank, participants are expected to observe the following:

  1. NADBank has a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of harassment. NADBank University Ambassadors must at all times act and conduct themselves with the highest standards of respect and integrity when interacting with any individual, institution or authority, especially in posts on social media. This code of conduct must also be followed with respect to any reference to NADBank or to the events or activities in which it is involved, as well as any other subject that is the topic of chats in its digital ecosystem.

General Provisions

  1. The participants, by applying to serve as NADBank University Ambassadors, expressly and freely agree to abide by the terms of this notice, as well as accept the results of the selection process.
  2. Any situation or circumstance not provided for in this notice will be addressed by NADBank, through its Public Relations and Communication Unit, and its decisions will be final.
  3. NADBank will protect the personal data that it receives in accordance with its Policies regarding Disclosure and Confidentiality. The personal data received will be used exclusively for the purposes of this program.

This notice is issued as part of the institutional outreach and communication efforts that the North American Development Bank, exercising the powers conferred by its charter, promotes in the academic community in Mexico and the United States; therefore, it does not represent, nor can it be understood to be an offer of employment, internship, the provision of professional services or any other paid activity.

The participation of students in this application process is free and voluntary and, therefore, does not generate any labor obligations for NADBank nor constitute a partnership, company or other binding relationship except as expressly stated in the notice for the sole purpose of the program. Students selected to serve as NADBank University Ambassadors will only perform the activities that they voluntarily wish to carry out in that capacity; therefore, they are not obligated to perform any activity. At no time will they be considered an employee or subordinate of NADBank. They will not receive a salary, nor will they be tied to a schedule to perform the activities that they voluntarily wish to perform in this capacity. 

Moreover, selection to serve as a NADBank University Ambassador does not in any way obligate the North American Development Bank to hire the student as an employee or professional service provider, nor guarantee a position as an intern or employee of NADBank in the future, nor confer any preferential treatment on the student in filling vacant positions at the Bank.

1.- How do I enroll in the NADBank University Ambassadors Program?

There are two ways to find the link to the Application Form: 1) on the NADBank website, under the Events tab; or 2) by clicking the link found in the Call for Applications, under “Application Requirements/Application Steps.” Once you complete all the fields (Name, University, Major, etc.) and submit the form, your answers and information will be reviewed by the NADBank coordinators, and you will receive a link via email to continue the application process (activate your profile and upload all required documents). 

  2.- What are the requirements?

 The general requirements for applying to the program are:

4.- What are the activities that I will have to carry out as a University Ambassador?

The Call for Applications includes suggested activities that students could implement within their school and on social media. Creativity and enthusiasm will be essential for performing this ambassador role. Activities listed in the Call for Applications include:

  1. Advance and participate in activities at the student´s school by organizing and promoting events, webinars, round-table discussions, workshops, seminars, panels, videoconferences, etc., related to NADBank’s mission, programs, projects, and messages, as well as other related topics, such as those described in the Call for Applications.

  2. Promote and disseminate NADBank programs, activities, and messages within the student community at their respective universities.

  3. Actively participate in and engage with NADBank social media posts to expand the scope and reach of its digital publications.

  4. Become involved in activities at the student´s school, such as publishing articles of interest related to NADBank in student magazines, brochures, or newspapers; participating in university or local radio or television programs; assist in the development of student podcasts, posts, or blogs, as well as any other projects, channels, or initiatives.

5.- How much time do I need to dedicate to this program?

There is no specific requirement of hours per day/week to fulfill your University Ambassador duties. Students will be free to organize their schedules to carry out the activities described in the Call for Applications. 

6.- How many activities would I be responsible for organizing as a university ambassador?

The University Ambassador Manual contains a suggested work calendar to help students manage their time and distribute their activities throughout the six-month period. However, Ambassadors may choose to carry out other activities in addition to those proposed in the calendar, which would make them good candidates to be recognized as outstanding in the performance of their duties and to receive the benefits described in the Call for Applications (travel to San Antonio Texas to attend a flagship event, publication of an article authored by the student in NADBank´s social media).

7.- Is this program equivalent to college credit?

This is an extracurricular activity, which carries no academic credit.  

8.- Does it count as a course or internship?

This is an extracurricular activity, which does not count towards course or internship requirements.

9.- How long is the entire program? 

The duration of the program is approximately six months, from July 1st to December 31, 2023.

10.- How will I be notified if selected?

On June 7, 2023, NADBank will post on its website and social media a list of the individuals selected as NADBank University Ambassadors. 

11.- Do I obtain a diploma or recognition at the end of the Program?

Yes. At the beginning of the program, NADBank will issue the selected students a document that accredits them as University Ambassadors. Additionally, upon completion of service, NADBank will present a Certificate of Recognition to those students who, in the opinion of the Bank, have successfully carried out the activities outlined in the University Ambassador Manual. 

12.- Will I receive any type of remuneration or salary for the Program?

The program does not provide any remuneration or financial compensation.
